‘Nations Favourite Hero’ Simon Weston CBE to address Caerphilly Businesses

Written by Caerphilly Business Forum, Tuesday, 25 April 2017

Successful Welsh businessman and Falklands’ war veteran, Simon Weston CBE, will visit Caerphilly on 9th May to give inspiration to an audience of businesses and entrepreneurs.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Falklands War, the conflict that brought the Sir Galahad to destruction in Bluff Cove. On-board was Welsh Guardsman Simon Weston, a man whose struggle to overcome his injuries (46% burns) and redefine his role in life has captured the attention of the nation for the best part of three decades.

Simon’s speeches are renowned for being highly engaging, infectiously enthusiastic and irrepressibly humorous. His message is one of achievement, of triumph over adversity, of seizing the moment and succeeding: lessons many of us can benefit from in a world where few will ever have to encounter anything close to what he has.

Simon’s own career success is a testament to how living and breathing this positive mental attitude can work. As well as running his own South Wales-based security business, Weston Security, he is also a Director of start-up Zappawoo, a company that makes travel and holidays more accessible for those with disabilities.

A father of three and grandfather of one, Simon is also a multiple best-selling author, has been the subject of five major BBC Television documentaries and has been involved in a number of highly successful ventures.

Former President for Wales Scouting, his honours include being voted one of the top 100 Welsh Heroes in 2004, the Nations Favourite Hero in the UK’s Heroes Index in 2014, and most recently, in 2016, the CBE for his notable charitable work.

Chair of the Forum, Denise Lovering, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Simon Weston CBE to our community. His guidance on accepting change, dealing with challenges and managing diversity, will no doubt be a great source of encouragement and provide fresh motivation to local companies looking to tackle their next goal and grow their business.”

Simon’s talk marks the start of a series of motivational networking events hosted by Caerphilly Business Forum, an organisation run by members for members that connects local businesses and promotes skills development and knowledge exchange.

The event takes place at Coleg y Cymoedd at 6pm on 9th May. Tickets include a light finger buffet and drinks reception. To book, please visit:
