St. David's Foundation Hospice Care was established in 1979 and provides free community-based hospicecare to people with cancer or any other life threatening illness living within the unitary authorities of Caerphilly,Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and South Powys.
Last year we cared for 2,786 patients and their families, providing patients with real choice aboutwhere they receive their care and where they spend their final days.
In addition to four teams of Clinical Nurse Specialists, St. David's Foundation has a 'Hospice atHome' team of nurses and healthcare assistants who provide hands-on care and support.
St David's also has a Rapid Response service to ensure that our patients can receive care veryquickly should their condition deteriorate.
Further support is provided by our Family Support Team, comprising of social workers, welfarerights advisers, children's support worker (Unicorn Project), bereavement support andcomplementary therapists.
We have three Day Hospices, one near Pontypool, one in Ystrad Mynach and one in Brecon, providing respite and recreational activities for patients and their carers
Resource Centres, one in Caldicot and one in Monmouth.
We are indebted to the support of the community, as it costs St. David's Foundation approximately £5.4 millioneach year to provide our services, and we receive less than 20% of this funding from the NHS.
Our aim is to engage with the community by providing ways to support us that are fun, create greatteam spirit and motivation and generate that ‘feel good factor’ in these hard times.Events cater for individuals and teams, and include:
walks,
bike rides,
abseils (for the more adventurous) and
runs.
Less energetic activities include:
Fashion Shows,
Concerts and
Dinner Dances.
New for 2011 we are hosting a Zumba Class world record attempt in March at the Celtic Manor Resort, andWhite Water Rafting in Cardiff.
For a lot of people in the community, taking part in events and obtaining sponsorship is not an option – andwe fully appreciate this. There are many other ways to support us:
Joining our lottery
Regular Giving Donating unwanted goods
Volunteering
We are looking for Entry Teams to support our events, including volunteers, stalls and activities. If your unable to take part, perhaps you would consider sponsoring one of the events.
There are so many options to demonstrate your support – from simply displaying posters (to help us to promote our events), to entering team events, or setting up regular giving in your workplace.
As a socially responsible company, you are already aware of the benefits of supporting charities – and here at St. David’s Foundation we work hard with our supporters to make sure their charitable experience is as rewarding as it can be.
I have attached a brief outline of what we do, and how you and your staff could support us.
We thank you for your consideration and would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss working together in the future. Please feel free to telephone or email if you need any further information.
